Biography
A self-taught photographer, Sophie Churlaud developed her practice in 2017 while living abroad in Montreal (QC), using photography as a daily means of expression. Upon her return to France, she joined Éric Genevrier's Beaux-Arts workshop in Paris to refine her technique and explore various photographic movements.
Her work combines digital and analogue photography with a plastic approach characterized by the exploration of textures, materials and the play of light. Through abstraction and minimalism, her images invite interpretation while addressing introspective themes such as loneliness and memory. The contrast between photographic processes enriches her reflections on time and sensation.
Passionate about zines, Sophie loves to create handmade or self-published works, often using a photocopier as the final object represents a refined form of publishing and narrative construction for her.
She has exhibited her work at Studio Argentique in Montreal and her work has been selected as a favorite by Fisheye magazine.
